Tenebrae is a Latin term meaning “darkness” or “shadows”, referring to a solemn liturgical service held during Holy Week to commemorate the passion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ. With sacred song and holy scripture, the Tenebrae Service is characterized by the gradual extinguishing of candles, symbolizing the abandonment of Jesus by his followers. Christ the King Parish will hold its traditional Tenebrae Service on Monday evening of Holy Week, March 30TH, beginning at 7:00 pm in the awesome beauty of Saint Mary’s Church in Sharpsburg.
