est-Kept Secret is a short primer which lays out the basics of Catholic social teaching in an accessible way. Writing in everyday language for the non-scholar, Mark Shea concisely describes the roots of Catholic social teaching in Scripture and Tradition and gives simple, practical examples of how it works in ordinary life. Our online study of Shea’s book will meet via Zoom on six Thursday evenings, September 18 to October 23, from 7:30 to 8:45. Whether you are conservative or liberal in politics and economics, this book is likely to challenge your thinking. Register via Flocknote at https://ctkpgh.flocknote.com/signup/224512, or email Andrew Bechman HERE. Note that you will be responsible for obtaining your own copy of the book, which is available online as a paperback, e-book, or audiobook from Audible. The price varies. There is no cost for the sessions themselves. Join us and get in on the secret! The Catholic Church has a process to welcome adults and older children into the Catholic Church. Its formal title is The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). We just call it Adult Initiation.
The process is primarily intended for people who have never been baptized. We also work with Christians who have been baptized in another denomination but would like to become Catholics, and with baptized Catholics who were not raised in the faith and have not yet received the sacraments of Confirmation and/or Eucharist.
As much as possible, we tailor the process to the needs of the people who are inquiring. The purpose of the process is to help our inquirers come to a beginning knowledge of Jesus and a relationship with him through our parish community. Beginning the process does not imply commitment on your part.
If you are interested in joining the Church or in helping others to enter, please contact Andrew Bechman, our Director of Adult Faith Formation HERE.
We usually have a program in the fall and another during Lent in the late winter and spring. Other special programs are announced in the bulletin and on our website.
Would you like to form a book club, discussion group, prayer or support group? Would you like to organize a group retreat? Please contact Andy Bechman to discuss the possibility.
