Guidance for this weekend&#039;s Masses

While the Sunday obligation remains serious and important, the Church teaches that the obligation does not bind when a person is not reasonably able to attend Mass. This includes circumstances such as unsafe travel conditions, limited mobility due to age or health, or other factors that place personal safety at risk. In these situations, the faithful are automatically dispensed from the obligation.

Because conditions vary widely across the diocese, with some areas fully cleared and others still experiencing hazardous streets and parking lots, Bishop Mark encourages parishioners to use prudent judgment when deciding whether to attend Mass this weekend.

Parishioners should be encouraged to:

Consider their personal safety and local conditions
Check parish websites, social media, or recorded phone messages for updated Mass schedules
Stay home with a clear conscience if travel conditions are unsafe

Those who are unable to attend Mass are encouraged to sanctify the Lord’s Day through prayer, reading Sacred Scripture, participating in a livestreamed or televised Mass, and making a spiritual communion.
